How often should i be dusting my house?

It really depends on the number of people living in the home wether you have pets, how old your house is, etc.... The most important thing to remember is YOU HAVE EYES. Trust them. If you can see dust, then dust. As far as air purifiers they work for allergens, and can help, but I'm assuming from your profile pic you are worried about your little one. You don't really need one unless you live in a metropolis where air quality is a big issue.

There are 2 types that I am aware of. 1. HEPA and 2. Electrostatic. The hepa pulls air through several filter media to remove dust, smoke, allergens and smells. The electrostatic models charge the air by passing an electrical current through a grid. The charged air particulates are attracted to the opposite charged metal of the grid and it sticks. Consumer reports has good reviews of both. Be wary of the as seen on tv ones because they are usually low quality and overpriced. www.consumerreports.org A good way to help prevent dust collecting is to replace your furnace filter with a higher quality unit like 3M Ultra Allergen model. They cost about $15 but they are worth it.

Depending on where you live, dusting can vary greatly depending on pets, furniture, and amount of people living there since most dust is from dead skin.
