How often should i brush my cat's teeth?

Hi, how often should I brush my cat's teeth? Vets recommended daily or every other day so I can brush off plaque before they mineralize- but would once a week be enough? Or is it too late to brush if plaques have hardened already?

Ignore the idiots telling you that you don't need to brush your cat's teeth. (Especially the one telling you that dry food will take care of it. Cats don't even chew their dry food, and since when does a pretzel clean /our/ teeth for us? Wet food is healthier by far.)

I'd go with what your vet recommends honestly. A good tooth brushing regime and regular dental cleanings at the vet is the key to good dental hygiene in kitties.

it really isnt necessary to brush a cat's teeth.....as long as you give them specific dry dental food and some occasional RAW chicken bones, they shouldnt have any problems with their teeth.

try to make regular vet appointments and get your vet to give them a quick check and clean.

be on the watch for any strange smells coming from your pets mouth or any change in appetite....this could be an indication of dental problems.

Considering ALL vets recommend brushing your cat's teeth so they don't have problems later in life, I would disregard these first two comments and go with what your vet suggested since he/she is the expert. You can get that salmon or chicken flavored cat toothpaste (never use human toothpaste, it makes them sick), and buy a finger mit at a pet store if your vet doesn't carry one. They love the toothpaste flavor and you can just rub their teeth with the finger mit while they're eating the cat toothpaste.

its not really common to brush cats teeth . Plaque on cats teeth is normal but if they start to look agitated by there teeth take them to the vets and the vets will give them something to stop the plaque reoccurring.
