  1. If your horse isn't doing much work then that may be a bit much.  My horses are being ridden but not extensively so they are basically maintaining.  I only feed them about 8 ounces of grain per day and the rest is pasture and hay.  They need much more forage than grain especially if they're not doing much work.

If you reduce grain then the hay bale will be fine.  If you don't reduce grain you should probably reduce hay a little too.  Since she's gaining weight she must be getting too many nutrients.

  2. you should feed her 2 times a day.once in the morning and evening but what you are doing is fine

  3. With free access to hay ( and, I hope, fresh water) I would be feeding a smaller amount every night.

Mine is on 24/7 turnout on grass and gets a very small feed daily.

  4. Sound like what you are doing is find, just do not let her get over heavy. I let my horse out in the day, but I feed 2 time a day, And up the feed if I am working them. In the winter I will add a little whole corn, for heat.

  5. I would feed her twice a day. In the morning and in the evening but only a large scoop of each this way she wont get any larger weight wise. Make sure she has water near by when she has her feed.

  6. I think you should feed him 3 times a day. Besides feeding make sure your horse gets some good exercise.

  7. My horses are show horses. I feed them 2 a day. morning and night and they are out during the  day. WHen all that grass gets gone, you need to feed her at least once a day. You aren't feeding her many vitamins, so i would suggest getting some minerals and putting them in her paddock

  8. Hi,

Depending on how nutritious and  fresh your hay is, I'd feed her 4-6 flakes a day (Or enough in the morning for her to have constant hay to graze on)

Very little grain is needed when the hay is fresh. Just enough to make her think she's getting what everyone else is (if there are other horses on the property)

Also - If you can switch/keep her out of this paddock for a couple weeks, try seeding it with grass, or seed it right before the first frost, and something may grown next spring.
