Question:

How often should i water a small potted cactus ?

i'v been keeping it outside on our deck. it is summer where i live so it gets kinda hot all day till like 5 then it cools down a little but the sun is still out till 8pm

  1. Your best bet is to check your cactus on a regular basis (maybe even daily in hot weather) to see if it's dry. Don't water if it's not, because cactus will rot if their soil/roots stay wet. Remember that the smaller the pot, the faster the potting medium will dry out.

    You may notice your cactus shriveling up a little if its soil stays too dry--definitely water it when you notice this. When I used to keep cactus plants outside on my sunny deck, I watered the smallest ones every morning in hot weather because they'd always be dry by the end of the afternoon.


  2. I always watered mine once every 3-4 weeks while growing up.

  3. As soon as the soil feels dry. Water it "after" the sun goes down.  (rule of thumb for flowers, plants, & bushes)
