How often should the compressor come on in a chest freezer

Thank you for your answers!! The freezer is new, 5cu feet. It comes on for 5min., then stays off for about 10min., before it comes on again.

Does that sound about right?

not very often unless the seals are leakey.

There are entirely too many factors involved to give an exact answer.  Even owner's and service manuals won't state how often is too much.  If you feel your appliance is cycling too much, ambient air temp, how full it is, how long since new unfrozen products have been added, how many times it's being opened, how good the door seal is, how clean the cooling coils are, how much ventilation the unit has, thermostat settings..., are all things you can take a look at.

it will run a lot if the seals arent sealing, also if your home isnt cool enough it will run.

Like the two above me advised,leaking gaskets will let in warmer air.

Also depends on what the stat is set on but it's at least -10 below and will come on probably somewhere between every 8 or 15 minutes.
