There are a number of factors that will make it deviate from the norm though.

Really this is a difficult question to answer.  A unit undersized for the room set to max cold may never stop, an over sized unit in a room with rapid air exchange may cycle almost non stop.  If you could provide more info about the unit and room size we may be able to give a better answer.

Most will run a better part of the time.  Depending on how fast the ambient air temperature rises, after it shuts off, to tell the thermostat to re-start the cooling cycle.
