How often should we call?

we moved 5 hours away from my stepdaughter, she just spend the whole summer up here with us and now she's back with her mom. Our dream is to be able to call her everyday afterschool to see how school went, but we think that would annoy her mother and she wouldnt let us talk ( no answer the phone). so i was thinking once a week. How often is too often to call? We love our stepdaughter and want to be involved in her lives...she's 8 and not mature enough to have a cell phone. ( she's loose in the same day). When my stepdaughter was with us during the summer break, her mom called once every couple of weeks

I'd try once a week, but not too regular, that might freak the mom out. Talk to the mom, and see what she thinks.

I'd also invite your stepdaughter to call you sometimes.
