  1. Every year, throw out the "fad/trendy" stuff. Every 2 years, examine your wardrobe for needed updates on staples like jeans, sweaters, etc. Every 5 years, you should totally purge, meaning update your wardrobe completely, keeping only items that are good quality and classic.

  2. I go through my wardrobe at least every season and get rid of what I don't like, not in style, ect. I am trying (key word trying) to train myself to get rid of something when I buy something new....IE if I need new undies throw out the old when I bring in the new. This way I would have such a hard time going through all of my clothes and it wouldn't take forever. Good Luck. I hope it helps.

  3. Depends on your mood and budget, in my opinion.

For example, a friend of mine buys lots of basic pieces, but nothing that really stands out and her budget is tight. Basic are great and usually inexpensive... Not to mention easily bendable. And due to lack of extra funds, i would keep you can... Throw out the things getting old and the things you NEVER wear.

But if you have money, then probably every 6 months just go thru what you don't want or what isn't in style anymore.

Personally, i have a very mixed closet nowadays. I have really been investing in great basics to go with my great finds. I prefer to look for more 'timeless' items and some trendy things and pair them up. But honestly, i hardly go thru my closet. I find throwing clothes away to be too difficult.
