I got my skiies at the end of December 07 and they are the first skiies I have ever owned. Ive skiied on them about 8-10 times this season and I was just wondering when do you wax your skiies and how often? Im probably not going to be skiing again till next winter.

  1. you should have them professionally done at least once a season.  this can easily and cheaply be done at your local mountain or ski shop.

  2. you can tell 2 ways

    1. you can feel it

when u start sticking and feeling like you're being held back by something it means the wax is gone - trust me you will feel it

    2. you can see it

if you look at a waxed ski the base is black (as long as the p-tex is black) and when your wax is stripped than it will appear some what a little white and dry.

also check your edges with your fingernail - run the top of your fingernail against the edge it will shave a little off if it is sharp

    edge - once a year

    wax - use your descretion

  3. Wax them no before you put them away for the season. Inspect the edges and bases for any damage and sharpen the edges.  Release the binding tension for the toe and heel. Record the DIN settings before you release the tension and mark it on the skiis so you will remember to reset the tension to those numbers next fall. If your feet grow or you change boots, take them to a shop and have them adjust the bindings.

Use canning wax or some all temperature wax for your bases, melt some on an old iron and drip it on the bases, then run the iron quickly over the wax drops and melt them into a thin layer.  Do not use a good iron, go to Goodwill  or other charity and buy an old electric iron, also buy an old pair of skiis while you are there.  Practice with the old skiis how to sharpen the edges and to wax them. After they are waxed, scrape the wax to a thin film to preserve the bases for next season.  I ski 5-6 days a week and about 5-6 hours a day. I hot wax 2 pair  every week and seldom have any problem with them being sticky.  It takes several dozen hot waxes to get the bases really saturated with wax and make them into a good sliding ski.

  4. Then dont wax them till next winter. But if you ski about 8-10 times a season on average i would say twice a season. I'm a ski racer and i wax my skis about every other time i go up but everytime for a race.
