  1. Horses should have their hoofs trimmed about each 6 to 8 weeks. This helps keep cracks from forming, keeps the hoof at the proper length and the farrier can check for any other problems. Due to uneven wear, this also helps the horse to ride properly. We had not had our horse trimmed at the right time. He has sensitive feet. After awhile, he appeared to be developing back problems. After we had him trimmed again, his back problems seemed to resolve. Regular trimming is important to a horse's health.
