  1. Change filter every month and feed like twice a day. If you go on vacation though you don't need to get someone to feed your fish unless you will be gone for a VERY long time. Goldfish can go up to 3 weeks without eating. You don't have to change the water unless it looks really green or infested in algae.

  2. you skipped alot of important steps in setting your aquarium up,

you should have conditioned the water, allowed it to cycle, and put a trash fish in to test the water. it seems you are new but that's okay, everyone was at one point!

you will want to feed your fish very little a couple times a day, never more than they can eat, or if that is too dificult, feed them once in the morning and once at night, only a little and once again never more then they can eat in 3 minutes or so. you should also not cram goldfish into small aquariums, goldfish can grow to huge sizes and should have at least 10 gallons a piece+ 10 extra, you should have a 60gallon tank for those fish. even though that is probably not the case, all hope is not lost, you HAVE to have a filter for them that is rated for 60 gallons(opr the closest thing to it that will fit and not make too much current). goldfish make alot of waste and that creates high levels of ammonia, i suggest looking through google and yahoo for goldfish care.

and what you put in is a plant, algae is the green filth that will grow on the insaide of our tank, they will probably eat the plant, but only out of boredome. goldfish have no stomachs and will eat forever, killing them.

hope i helped, google for more.

  3. Hi there! I am a professional goldfish keeper, and I started off with the exact same setup as you. To help you out, I have set out a care plan that you should follow to keep your goldfish happy!

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED

These are a few things that you'll need to run a successful aquarium. You can get away by using alternatives or missing out a few. All items are always available from your local fish retailer or pet store.

    The aquarium and goldfish

    Goldfish food

    Water dechlorinator

    Net

    Disease treatment

    Algae magent

    Gravel vacuum

    A bucket

    YOUR CARE PLAN

    - You should feed your fish with a good quality food twice every day. You should feed enough food for 2 minutes of feeding. Once the fish seem content, net out any uneaten food. TIP: A goldfish's digestive capacity is roughly the same size as one of its eyes. You should try to only feed equal volume to the size of the fish's eyes.

    - You need to complete a quick maintenance every week to keep your fish healthy and happy. Use a gravel vacuum to suck up 20% of the water in your aquarium. The gravel vacuum will also suck up poo and uneaten food that can get trapped in the gravel. If you have an algae problem, use an algae scraper/magnet to clean algae off the sides of the aquarium.

    - Remember to keep an eye on your goldfish. Try and check them for liveliness and vitality every other day. If you see any signs of illness, quickly dose with a good medicine for the illness you see.

    - It is a good idea to have a filter in your aquarium to keep it clean. However, even major goldfish societies don't use filters. I'd recommend one, but you can survive without one.

    - It is a good idea to get a test kit also. It helps you monitor harmful chemical levels in your aquarium. They could help you save your goldfish's lives!!

    - A GREAT TIP: Every week, keep a day (I usually keep Sunday) as a no-feed day. Don't feed anything to your fish. It's not harmful, and helps your fish clear their systems out.

Hope you enjoyed reading my guide. Who knows, maybe your few goldfish could lead you to become a professional breeder like me?

    Good luck!
