Hey i was planning to enlist in either the navy or the army. I dont know exactly which but I am just wondering how often they see home. I will be going for the Military police job, I really wanna get some experience in law enforcement to one day become an officer.

So how often do either of the two militias concerning the job if it makes a difference see there home town? What kinda days do they have off? Vacations at all? Breaks? anything, just wondering. I dont really care Ide be there if I couldnt leave the base for an hour I just wanna know what I should expect.

Even variation is appreciated thanks!

  1. If McCain gets in, never again

  2. You get 30 days of leave per year.  Usually under special circumstances can you take all 30 at once.

I know the Army has DONSA (day of no scheduled activites) usually tied in with a 3 day weekend to make it a 4 day.  If you are not on duty you can usually take a milage pass if you aren't far from home.

Once you are off duty for the day your time is yours just remember you are on call 24/7 so don't stray to far away without letting someone in your chain of command know where you are or how to get a hold of you.

When you enlist you get a dream sheet of what bases you are intrested in.  You might not get near your home state or you might be sent overseas right away (Germany, Korea).  If you want to stay close to home try the reserves or guard.

  3. where ever they move is their home.  it may not be where they are from, but it's their home until they get a new assignment.

as far as deployments, it depends on which branch of service and their job.  im in for 12 years now and have been only deployed twice (currently) and will have been away from my "home" for 1 year total.

glad AF has short deployments =)

  4. I got 30 days leave a year.  Your time off will depend on your job.  My job required I work 9 days rotated with a 72 hour break.  I got government holidays off if they happen to fall on my scheduled days.   My sister worked 5 days and got weekends and holidays off, plus her 30 days leave a year.

  5. You build up leave time.  The amount of time you're home is based upon how much leave time you take for other things, and whether or not you're deployed, etc.  I think you build up about 1 month's leave in a year.  After AIT many people take leave.  The best thing to do would be to talk to a Recruiter for the Navy and a Recruiter for the Army.  Don't only listen to what they say- double check it on websites and maybe with anyone you know in either.  They for the most part don't lie, but they leave things out that could be important.  Ask as many questions as  you can.

  6. I have been home once in the past 2 years.

  7. dad was in the air force for twenty years.  he only went away without us in the korean war and for a year in goosebay.  we moved every eighteen months but he was home every night.  i don't think the security would be run much different from a regular job except it they have an emergency or somethng like that.

  8. Like stated before, you get leave, and 3-4 day weekends.  Most base commanders try to get 1 4 day weekend off a month.  And to be honest, in the Army at least, you get a LOT of days off.  But that makes up for days spend in the field training and down range deployed.  How often you go home is up to you.  I have been overseas for 7 years, and in that time have been home about 6 or 7 times.  But that is because I take a leave locally  with my wife.  Before that I was about a 13 hour drive from home.  And every 4 day weekend the wife and I would jump in the car Thursday night.  It is all up to you.  But you will have the chance to go home.  Don't worry.
