Our car was registered June 2004 and we bought it December 2004, only done 24,000 miles on it as we are not heavy users. Received text from the Renault dealership to say time to replace the cam belt....but when checking the internet seems that's only necessary when much more mileage has been done? Can anyone help?

  1. usually engine manufacturers are giving terms or life span on their cam belt . I suggest, you follow what the manufacturers says on your camp belt. If they say every 50,000 miles of usage  you had to replace your camp belt, you had to do so. If while using your  car, your  camp belt give way ,then your engine will be in big trouble.

  2. 60-80k miles

  3. Cam belts are like car warranties 12month or 12000 miles which ever comes first. Belts can loose there flexibility and should be replaced as per manufacturers specification which is normally at about 5years or  60000 miles which ever comes first. They only presumed that you have travelled close to this on normal usage and the age of the vehicle would be telling them that it is time to replace it. Give your local dealership a call and in form them of your use age. But for the sake of replacing a cam belt ( finances permitting ) and preventing any major damage to the car I would do it.
