I recently got a leopard gecko and I have been feeding it live crickets. My friend asked me if I was feeding my leopard gecko meal worms and I said no. So how big do the geckos have to be?

  1. Ok first off the meal worms CANNOT eat through your lizard once they have been eaten. Just not possible. If you gecko is at least 4 inches long then I would say it's ok to feed him meal worms.  They do have hard shell which in very rare cases have caused impaction. The easiest way to avoid that is to only feed a few at a time. I would say 3-4 no more than 2 or 3 times a week at most. Wax worms 1 or 2 a week they are higher in fat, but have a softer body. When bigger I would give superworms (look like big meal worms) and butter worms in addition to the crickets.

  2. You may feed them when they are 4 inches long. The worms MUST be the width of thier head. If not your Leo may die. only feed at small amounts per week. Do not feed more than 3 in one sitting. they have hard shells and can eat through your gecko's skin if you feed him too much. Honestley I use meal worms and he is 8 inches. But again i only feed him 3-4 meal worms a week. The most stable diet is crickets

    Hope I helped!!
