  1. Each of the States and Territories have different starting ages. It all depends on when the child turns five. Generally if they are truning five before May or June they will be accepted. So usually a child is between 4 and 5 when they begin. Kindergarten is what is used in N.S.W I am not sure what the other states call it.

Best off to check with your local school.

  2. It depends on the state - in SA they start the term after they turn 5, not necessarily at the start of a year.

  3. The children start 'Prep' which is the first year of primary school, generally when they are 5years old, turning 6 within that year (Victoria). However not all states follow this, they like to be different.

  4. usually around five,as our school year starts in feb some parents send their kids at 4 and a half others hold them back til the feb after they turn 5

  5. Kindergarten is the beginning of primary school and it is "proper school" as you say. I started kindy when I was 5 turning 6, but most other kids were 4 turning 5 or had turned 5 that year.

There are cut-off ages and it depends on which month of the year the child was born, though i'm not sure of the specifics of that. Kindy was a full-day at my school, though it might have been half-day for the first month to make us comfortable.

After kindergarten we have Year 1. Before kindergarten, most kids go to preschool (i think i started when i was 3).

  6. yes 5 years old. though my brother was 4 when he started but was turning 5 in april. i think there's a cut off for 4 years old.. if your child will be turning 5 before may then you can enroll your child, if after may then you have to wait until the next year.

though there are some people that start their children in school at the age of 6.. no clue why..

  7. 4-6 years old in NSW. Its different in other states. Kindergarden is the first grade of school, then its progresses to year 1, year 2 .etc.
