  1. a child in year 5 now, with a birthday in mid nov will be one of the oldest, she will be 11 this birthday.

  2. I don't know how old I was in year two...

But I DO know that I ended up being the oldest one in my class for a good few years because of that stupid birthday rule!!

The cut off date to be Five Years Old to get into Kindergarten was October 15th, and I turned five on October 16th, at 4:30 in the morning!! It was really ridiculous, I was READY for Kindergarten, and they didn't let me in. :/ I hate the age limit, I think it should have to do with how smart you are.

  3. reception - 4 or 5 years old

    year 1  - 5 or 6 years old

    year 2 - 6 or 7 years old

depending on when you joined and when your birthday is

  4. Nursery is age 3-4

    Reception age 5.

    Yr 1 age 6

    Yr 2 age 7.

    Yr 3 age 8

    Yr 4 age 9.

    Yr 5 age 10.

    Yr 6 age 11

    Yr 7 age 12

    Yr 8 age 13

    Yr 9 age 14.

    Yr 10 age 15.

    Yr 11 age 16.

The child enters the appropriate yr if his birthday falls in the school year. e.g if a child is 14 between Sept 1st and Aug 31st , he will enter yr 9.

    Hope that helps you.

  5. Basically a school year lasts from 1st September to 31st August the following year. So say one child is born on the 31st August and in the same year another child is born on the 1st September, the one born in August would be in a higher  year group to the other, despite only a days difference.

Reception: 4 by the 31st August turn 5 in the coming year.

Year 1: 5 by the 31st August turn 6 in the coming year.

Year 2: 6 by the 31st August turn 7 in the coming year.

Year 3: 7 by the 31st August turn 8 in the coming year.

Year 4: 8 by the 31st August turn 9 in the coming year.

Year 5: 9 by the 31st August turn 10 in the coming year.

Year 6: 10 by the 31st August turn 11 in the coming year.

Year 7: 11 by the 31st August turn 12 in the coming year.

Year 8: 12 by the 31st August turn 13 in the coming year.

Year 9: 13 by the 31st August turn 14 in the coming year.

Year 10: 14 by the 31st August turn 15 in the coming year.

Year 11: 15 by the 31st August turn 16 in the coming year.

    Example.

    YEAR 2

    Jeniffer born 8th October 2000.

    Samuel born 14th April 2001

    Jordan born 18th July 2001

    Kara born 24th August 2001

    YEAR 1

    Eloise born 21st September 2001

    Jamie born 24th November 2001

    Adam born 3rd December 2001

    Sara born 29th April 2002.

This is because Eloise, Jamie and Adam were all born after the 31st August 2001 yet before 1st September 2002, therefore they go into the next year group. Whereas Jeniffer, Samuel, Jordan and Kara were all born after 31st August 2000 and before the 1st September 2001 therefore they are all in the older year group.

However there have been cases of children born in July and August going into the lower year group due to their parents believing they would benefit more as being the oldest in there year as opposed to the youngest.

    Hope this helped.

  6. Here in the UK you have to start school by the term after your 5th birthday - which would make you 5 in reception, 6 in Year one and 7 in Year two.  In practice, many children start school during the year in which they will be 5 - including the august summer holiday as part of the previous school year.  So, a child who is four in August can start school in September - though she won't be five until the following August - but a child who is four in September will have to wait until the following September to start school.

In short, an August child is likely to be the youngest in the class, a September child is likely to be the oldest.  Hope that helps!  My youngest will be four in July this year, and is starting school in September... though technically I could keep her at pre-school for a whole twelve months more, legally she doesn't have to start until September 2009 - by which time she would already be five.  I can't afford to keep her at private nursery for that long though, and she will only attend school part time initially.

  7. In my state, Children must be 5 before September 1st. or they wait til the next year to go to kindergarten.

Not sure what u were talking about "How old are you in year 2."

  8. In Missouri a child has to be 5 before Aug 1 in order to start school that year so my daughter was 6 when she started kindergarten as her birthday was Aug 13.  My son is now in 2nd and is 8.  His birthday is Sept 28 so he was 7 when school started and turned 8, 6 weeks after the start of the year.  If the child is born in Nov they will be 7 when they start the year and turn 8 during the school year.

The new guidelines actually work better.  When I graduated I was only 17 and was 17 when I left for college.  I was hard always being one of the youngest in the class and being 17 at graduation makes it hard to find a job if you didnt go on to college.

  9. In Northern Ireland it's different again.  The cut off point is the end of June and children start Year 1 at either 4 or 5.  For example all children born between July 2003 and June 2004 will start Year 1 in September this year.  In Year 2 they will be either 5 or 6.

  10. I was 7 in Year 2 (2nd grade)

  11. When you are born it is your day of birth

A year later, you celebrate your first birthday and you are one year old

You enter into your second year on your first birthday.

On your second anniversary, you have completed two full year and you are "two years old" - and you commence into your third year.

The number you call your age is how many complete years you have lived through.

Sorry, I had no idea "Year Two" meant anything having to do with education.  You didnt say it did...

  12. The academic year runs from Spetember to August. Children start school the September they are 4 years old and enter into Reception class. All children in this year  group will turn 5 before the following August, e.g. - all children born between Sept 1st 2004 and Aug 31st 2005 will be starting reception class this coming september.

A child who is currently in Year 2 who was born in November will have turned 7 in November 2007.

  13. In England you start reception class in school the term before your 5, so my little boy was 5 in march so he started school in January, normally school have 2 intakes a year one in September and one in January, so in year 2 you will either be 6 or 7
