  1. Chicks do not need their mother......     at a day old, you can teach them to drink and eat by dipping their beak into the water and food......    and they will take it from there......    most of us on farms order our baby chicks from hatcheries where the chick never had contact with the mother hen after being layed......     and they do just fine!!!

  2. ??????????/

  3. My hen hatched out the first 2 eggs and 3days later when other eggs started to hatch I caught the Hen pecking furiously at the newly hatching egg so I gathered that hatching egg and all other unhatched eggs and brought them in the house to finish the hatching.

I now have 4 more chicks and they have been away from their momma since before hatching.

I keep them warm with a suspended light bulb and provide them plenty of food and water. . . . they don't need food for the first 24-36hrs of their lives as they are still nourished from the yolk of the egg that they were attached to while still in the egg.

When they are all feathered out at the age of 6-8wks and ready to go join the rest. . . ..out they will go. . .LOL

  4. we hatched chicks in my kindergarten class and never had a mother chicken present, we hatched them in an incubator and transferred them to a box with a heat lamp when they dried.

  5. you can leave them in or take them out its all up to you.I have left some with their mom for about 8 weeks and i have incubated some that were never with a mom.Either way is fine.I have found that the ones I have raised without a mom are a little nicer and not as frigtened around people.
