Question:

How old do i have to be to work out properly?

I am 15 years old and i started working out to get tanked up for football season , but now i want to also start taking protein shakes to get a little help, but my family was against me working out and now is against me taking protein shakes, so now i wanna know if they are right or i am right:D

  1. You can and should work out, but take it easy, especially with weights, as you are still growing.

    The protein drinks are fine, but I'd stay away from most other supplements, unless approved by your doctor or another expert on teen development and fitness.

    I would suggest discussing and planning a workout regimen with your doctor, a trainer at your school or other expert.  They can help you develop a program especially for your body and meeting your goals.

    But there is certainly no harm in running, calisthenics, situps, pullups and some lifting.  You'll be stronger and in better shape, even if not super-bulked up.  The big guys are much better players if they are fast and strong too!

    but started taking it serious at 14

    now i'm 15 and a lot of my friends do it

  3. ideally you shouldn't work out until your through puberty as it can affect many parts of you-it is said to stump your growth ,damage your muscles and generally not good for you so you should start at about 18 at youngest-this will result in the problem of you not looking to great chest and stomach wise-but whats more important your health or looking "s**y"

  5. You should wait until you have finished devoloping (puberty) before you start working out properly otherwise you can do serious damage to your muscles.

    Working out causes rips in the muscles which heal and get bigger, but if you're body isn't strong enough or ready to repair you can be seriously hurt.

    Protein Shakes shouldn't do much damage, but you're not ready for this yet.
