How old do kids have to be to work in the state of New Jersey?

It depends on the job. Kids can be actors at any age.

if your 15 then you can work,but first you would have to find somebody that's willing to hire you. Like When I was 15 Target was willing to hire me,but first I would have to get a workers permit and give it to the target manager. You can get a workers permit at your schools counselors office. When your 16 More options to work at places and its not limited to a couple of work places. I'm turning 16 and its a lot easier to find jobs because im older and more responsible

The state require that you have to be at least 16 years old to work. But that does not mean you can do odd jobs like cutting somebody's lawn or cleaning store windows or washing cars or even helpping granny carry her grocery bags home.

I live in New Jersey and you need to be 16 for most jobs, but some other places higher younger.  You can be a lifeguard at 15, as long as you are certified, you can work at certain ice cream places and shops at 14 or 15, too.  It really depends on the job, but most places higher at 16.
