my boyfriend and i have been dating for a long time and he wants 2 get me a promise ring but his friends told him that he cant till I'm 16. they said it is illegal. i cant find anything about how old u have 2 be 2 wear one. so how old do u have 2 be?

if you're not old enough to be married, you aren't old enough to be thinking about it.

basically, a promise ring just means "I WANT to marry you". there really isn't anything legal about it, it's something personal. to be MARRIED you have to either be 16 with parental consent or 18 without it.

but please, sweetie, consider this carefully. there's no need to be in a serious relationship at your age. plenty of people marry there high school sweethearts but a lot more people THINK they will. you've barely lived your life yet. If you two love each other and are meant to be together, then he'll still be there when you're older.

Old enough that marriage is in the foreseeable future. My now-fiance' gave me one when I was 18. We had been dating for a year at that time, known each other for four years, and five months later he proposed. We settled on a longer engagement, and will be married next year at nearly 21 and 24 =]

A promise ring is just a promise that you two are faithful to one another and that you love one another. It has nothing to do with age. Your boyfriend can get you a promise ring whenever you two feel ready, there is no age restriction on that. Also, don't worry about what his friends say...they are boys, what do they know? :)

There is no law about this.  Talk to your parents to make sure they won't have a problem with this.  He should do the same.

There's no age you have to be to wear a promise ring.

It's just a ring that represents a promise, whatever that might be ... it's not getting engaged, though it might indicate an intention to get engaged at a future date. There aren't any laws limiting it.

Promise rings are for younger people, anyway. Those old enough to get engaged look silly wearing a promise ring.
