Long Rifles and shotguns- 21, though there are special issues for 18-21. MUST be registered, and to purchase Ammo, must have a FOID permit.

Handgun- In Chicago??? Not yet, but that is now being challenged after SCOTUS Ruling in Heller v DC. A few of the burbs have now repealed their bans...Wilmette, Morton Grove, and Evanston have evolved,  BUT, guess who says he will fight it... chicago's own daley.

CW permit.. forget it! Chicago is now actively choosing to ignore the 2nd Amendment... and yet, crime soars!

Until recently, you could not own a handgun in the city limits of Chicago. The Supreme court cleared up that matter and now several other cities and burbs close to Chicago are dropping their bans on firearms. Evanston and Oak Park I think both dropped theirs recently to avoid lengthy court battles.

Lots of the folks here are just pulling your leg on the age. Many 9-20 years olds may have guns in Chicago but not legally. The age is 21 for handguns in Illinois. Cook County still has a lot of "Extra" laws regarding certain types of guns like " assault weapons" which mean many things to many people.

In Chicago? I'm pretty sure the average age is about 13. For the rest of the state, it's 21 with a FOID card.

Senator Obama doesn't want you to have a gun.  He's only making nice about it because the Supreme Court plainly said the Second Amendment says so.

Look for him to nominate new Justices who don't think the Constitution says what it plainly says.

Well, if Chicago is anything like Cleveland, you can be as young as 10 years old to have a gun....or was it 9?  LOL  Legally speaking, you have to be 21, and not have any criminal offenses.
