  1. Technically, OSHA requires you to be 18 to be out on the ramp actually working with aircraft.  (Why it makes much difference if a 17 year old or an 18 year old walks into a prop is beyond me, but that's the way the laws are written.)

In the hangar, people seem to start detailing at 16 or so.

In an FBO, 17 isn't a bad age to start as a customer service rep. You can always move to the line when you're 18 and there's no rule on when you can take your tests if you work for an Exxon or Chevron dealer.

If you want to fly, you can look into a flying school like American Flyers, who will often arrange a work for flight instruction sort of deal.

If you want to bend wrenches, go to the FBO, spend some time on the line and you'll either discover someone willing to hire you as an apprentice or be able to find a local maintenance training program. And yes, I have literally bent wrenches, I've got a tool box full of them that I use as special tools. Replacing a 402's turbocharger is a b*****d.

Get a job at a small FBO and build a career from there in the direction you want it to go. Small FBO's don't advertise very often, so the recommendaton of some pilots in your area is helpful, the rest is just going there and filling out the application.

And don't do what a coworker at my first job did, he'd take his lunch to go do bong hits. Something about being stoned and playing with airplanes doesn't sound like a good idea.

  2. Start with your local FBO (fixed base operator) that's what I did at the age of 15. If you can drive you can operate the fuel truck, cut the grass, and all sorts of fun things.......Earn some cash and apply it towards flight training....

That would be my way of pursuing this........

  3. You can be as old as you want to be as long as yu fit the child labour laws of your country.

  4. Well what kind of expirience are you looking for....If pilot , then no you can already get your privte pilots license. I belive 18 for most positions....bags....ground crew..NOT A FUN JOB, very difficult and makes you pick up objects 40 pounds or more.
