How old do yo have to be to get a boat license in Western Australia?

Regulation 49a(2) of the Navigable Waters Regulations states that;

"A person who is under the age of 17 years but not under the age of 14 years, who holds a current and valid Certificate of Proficiency in the Operation of Pleasure Vessels, issued under regulation 27A of the W.A. Marine (Certificates of Competency and Safety Manning) Regulations 1983, may drive or operate a motor boat."

This course will allow persons between the age of 14 and 17 to operate a power driven vessel of more than 4.5 kwp on their own. It does not however allow that person to operate a vessel engaged in skiing if unsupervised by an adult.
