  1. 15 - 16 you have to get certified.


  2. It all depends on where you are. For ocean lifeguarding in some areas, they will take 13/14 year old rookie guards, if they can pass the battery of pre-employment tests (ocean swim, run, row). Some states have child labor laws that cover both pool and ocean lifeguarding.  Many certifying agencies require that guards be a  minimum age, but that varies (Red Cross, BSA etc.).
