How old do you have to be able to get a debit card?

I am 16. I have a bank account with a lot of money in it and I want to have a debit card on that account.

  1. Just go into your bank and let them know that you want one.  Some  banks may not have them but most do.


  2. well...  i think it depends on the bank. i have USAA and i got mine when i was 13. so i think there are different plans for it.

If this account is a checking account, then go to your bank and ask for one.  If you don't have a checking account, then you will most likely need one of your parents to open one with you and then ask for a debit card just for you.  You can open a savings account by yourself at 16 but not a checking account.

  4. It depends on the bank you do your transactions at but the majority of banks is the age 18 to get one by your self and 16 with a guardian.  

  5. ask ur bank, they sometimes have an age limit. i was told i could get one when i turn 14, but i haven't got one yet.  

  6. I would say the best person to ask is someone at the bank. If they won't give you one b/c of your age then ask one of your parents to get you one. My guess would be 18 though. I didn't have an account til I was that age so I really don't know.
