  1. There are many levels of pilot licenses. First  is the private certificate which permits you to fly small single engine planes in clear weather (visual flight rules- VFR). Is is possible to get a private certificate at 16. Then you progress to flying on instruments in poor weather (instrument flight rules IFR). Next is multiple engine rating. These can be on a private certificate but many would go for a commercial certificate at the same time as the multiple engine rating.

With a basic commercial certificate you could probably get a job with an air taxi or small plane charter company. You will need more training for commuter airline, and even more before you can fly a medium sized jet (737) for a regional airline. At this point training consists mostly if flying simulators and flying under supervision to qualify on the planes that you want to fly next. You will have to qualify on every type or air line  plane before you are permitted to act as pilot or copilot.

Cost can vary widely: $6-8k for a VFH private certification. Another $4-6k for IFR, another $4-6k for multiple engine and commercial certificate. These are for private flying schools.

An alternative is a 4 year college with a pilot training.option. This would give you a degree as well as an pilot certificate. At graduation you would qualify for commuter airlines and probably for regional ones.

  2. You can get your Private Licesnse at like 16 I think, then Commercial at 18.  You have to be 23 to get your ATP which is required for Airlines.  It will cost around 40-55 thousand dollars, then you have to build time as an instructor or a low paying job.  You can eventually get there

  3. I'm a pilot in a university flight school right now.  Here is a break down:

    $600 for 3 credit hour class.  (That's 1 class)

114 Credit hours to graduate with Bachelor's

    About $110 per hour for a 172

About $160 per hour for a high performance singe engine

About $ 300 for multi engine training

Lear Jet / Large Twin = Free (University transport aircraft)

    These prices include instructors.

Total time of flight when you graduate: roughly 300 hours.

    Include food, dorm, etc.

    Total bill: $50,000 minimum.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Well more detail would be nice but , If you want to make a living out of it then 50,000$ USor more and at least 18 for your commercial.
