My sister and I want to adopt a cat from the Humane Society when I get my license in a few months. We wanted to surprise our parents with it, so we don't want to take them with us. Will I be able to adopt a cat if I'm only 16?

  1. You have to be 18 to adopt from a shelter

  2. i did when i waas 8

  3. I think you have to be 18. And i know with dogs, they have to check out your house. I am not sure about a cat. But there is a possibility that you can be 16, if you have the money. Call the shelter you are planning on adopting from and ask.

  4. srry u gotta be 18

  5. 16 is a minor.

You have to be 18 or older.

Don't suprise your parents, because then I'm sure the poor animal will go back to the humane society.

  6. i am pretty sure you have to be eighteen

  7. I thin you have to 18 years old. But you never know if you never try.

  8. You have to be 18 and you have to be the primary owner and you have to bring all individuals who live in the home and they must all agree - that means your parents.

  9. I am so glad that you have chosen to adopt a cat instead of purchase one. You acctually have to 18 to adopt, but if you don't want your parents to come, you could invite some other adult to take you?

    Good luck!

  10. Unfortunately, you do have to be 18 years old. But that doesn't mean you can't get one.  Try having a friend or family member who can keep a secret go and adopt the cat for you, then take it and show you're parents.  Good luck.

  11. They check your house no matter what age you are.

Im sure you have to be 18 anyway ..

I wouldn't suprise your parents though .. i dont think they will appreciate it !! LOL

Why not discuss it with them and take them with you? Then you can get a cat that is suitable for the whole family, and your parents will feel they had more control and part in it .. which willl make them feel better !! LOL

Or, if you REALLY think its a good idea to suprise them, check out local adverts for kittens, but not from a breeder or petshop ...too many unwanted pets already

    GOOD LUCK GUYS

  12. It's 18.  And they certainly won't let you surprise your parents with it.

Your heart is in the right place by wanting to rescue, but it's just a bad idea to give an animal as a gift - especially when your parents are going to be the caretakers of this cat for the next 15+ years.

Instead, give your parents a gift certificate for "one cat from the AnyTown Animal Shelter".  Then, when they are ready, they can go pick one out.
