I am Caitlin and I am ten years old. I live in England in Bristol. I wanna earn more money. How old do you have to be to be a babysitter? Also, what other jobs are there and how old do I have to be?

(ANS) I think in the UK the law says you must be an adult to be a baby sitter, that means technically you should be 18years old or more.

**However, I think the situation is more complicated because frequently parents cannot find someone who is technically or legally an adult, so I think therefore the age of a person who baby sits is much younger (rightly or wrongly) 16years old would be reasonable but I have heard of cases of carers much younger than this.

**I don't think you can give a hard & fast rule for age in reality, no matter what the actual law of the land says.

**If the young person is mature enough to handle looking after a baby & is basically sensible & can use common sense I think many parents will trust a person well below 16years. It also depends how well the parents know the baby sitter too, because its about trust.

Maturity, not age will find you a job.  Start with your parents friends or church members with little ones.  Do kids and pets as well.  Maybe ask around town to see if there is a CPR class you can take.

I think it depends on your level of maturity, how well you know the children you are babysitting, and whether or not the parents trust you. If you're too young to babysit now, you can ba mother's helper, helping out with the kids while the mom is home doing housework, or let your neighbors know that you're interested in pet sitting while they're away on vacation, or even just walking their dogs while they're home. I think by law you have to be a reasonably mature 15 year old to babysit 1 child.
