  1. Legally in the UK you have to be 18 to gamble on anything except the lottery.


  2. To legally bet on horseraces, you have to be 18.

    FWIW, here in the US, the mutuel clerks do not card you (ask for ID with birthdate on it) if you look and act mature.  I'm not advocating underage people wagering, because the clerk who takes the bet could lose his/her license (and job) if he/she knowingly takes a bet from someone underage.  That said, I know of people who were well under 18 at the time they made their first bets.
