Plain and simple. DON'T buy a pet from Petsmart. Their animals are not handled and often sick & mite/lice infested upon adoption. Check out Petfinder to see if any hamsters in your area need to be rescued from animal shelters or rodent rescues.

Most petsmarts if your below the age of 18 you need a guardian or someone over the age of  18 to sign this sort of adoption paper they make you sign. They've done that to me with every animal I've had.

I'm not sure, but I'm positive they won't sell one to anyone younger than 16 without a parent.  And if you are asking, you probably SHOULD take a parent.  That way if you are purchasing it with your own money, it will prove to them you are willing to take part and be responsible for the pet.

i went their to buy a guinea pig and you have to be 18 and over or take your perants with you to sign a paper.

You have to be over the age of 18, or maybe 21. You can be any age to actually to hold it, just the guardian has to sign the paperwork and pay :)

AHH. please do not get a hamster from petsmart! Get one from your local pet store! The local pet store will probably let you be younger to get one instead of 18. And hamsters at petsmart are very dirty and they're overbred and sick. My hamster from my local pet store lasted a lot longer than the one I got from Petsmart.

Im getting mine on thursday!! I got the cage set up and all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...  UH.... you need to have a guardian to sign papers and stuff..... Hope this helps!

U probably have to be 18. Also 1 of ur answers said that their pets r sick but the truth is that every single different petsmart is different. The one I live close to has very healthy pets but maybe the 1 on the other side of town has unhealthy pets so don't listen to that answer.

well According to the sheet they had me fill out you have to be 18 or have your parent or legal guardian sign it for you.

What happened to me was i had to go grab another item for my hamster when the slip came so my mom paid for it.

Its really basic. It asks for the following.

your name:

Address:

City/ zipcode sort of stuff.

and

Phone number.

Its basically a contract saying you are wiling to look after the hamster.

After signing this you get a 14 day guarentee which in this time if you are not able to look after your hamster or It dies they will take it back or replace it for you.

PS: if this is your first hamster. Syrains are more freindly and after they are trained they are freinds for life. Dwarves are cute but have to have constant affection after trained.

PSS: Buy one of those platic domes for in there cage they love them.
