How old do you have to be to compete in Canadian Idol???

cause i was watching it last night and i saw ppl that were only 16, plus the fact that my grade got a tour of a highschool we're supost to attend next year, and while we were in the drama class looking around some guys kept on pointing to a girl whi they say is on Canadian Idol and we should vote for her, bla bla bla.

So how old do u need to be to compete in Canadian Idol???
