if your old enough to ask for a drink then you are allowed by law to consume it.

legal drinking age in Ireland is 18. It is the same as Scotland, Wales and England in case you're doing some GB traveling.

technically 18 but to be honest not that many places are strict on i.d.

Its 18, but there is talk of raising the age you can buy alcohol from an off-licence to 21. Also, some nightclubs have a 'door rule' that the minimum age of entry is 21.

In other places they have the rule that if you 'look' under 21 you have to provide a passport or driving licence to prove you are 18.
