How old do you have to be to get a bone marrow test?

my aunt has A.L.L. and her brothers and sisters were not matches, i thought I would get tested for a match. i'm 16

  1. If you are in the US, a minor can donate to a related family member at any age with parental permission.

    The problem here is the chance that you would match is slim.  Siblings are the best chance at 1 in 4, then parents or children at 1 in 8.  Beyond that, chances go down to like 1 in 1000 that you would match or less.  In fact, most insurance companies wont pay to test anyone outside of siblings parents or children.  So, if you were to get tested, you or your parents or your aunt or someone would have to pay out of pocket for the testing, and it is expensive.

    To sign up for the registry, you have to be 18.


  2. i think it is 16 if there is even an age.... there may not be one.
