  1. It depends what shop you want to work at. Usually you have to be 16 and 9 or 8 months. But  some places give you jobs at 16.

  2. 14 and up if you want to work at a buisness...like Winn Dixie

  3. LEGALLY...................14 for non-agriculture employment except for some exceptions at the bottom.

legally you can do many different jobs at 14 but most employers will not hire you because many at this age lack maturity, work-ethic and job-skills. fast-food and grocery stores are some of the best places to learn the skills that will translate to better jobs as you get older. restaurants and grocery stores are usually the best options for minors under 16 because they find it easier to work within the labor guidelines for that age group.

at 14 or 15 there are limits on when and how much you can work. most companies have their own policies concerning the hiring of minors so the only way to know about individual businesses is to apply.

since you are young and inexperienced the first impression you make is critical. be sure when you go to apply that you are dressed appropriately that you go when the business is slow and ask for a manager, introduce yourself and politely ask for an application and the appropriate time to bring it back. you must have great references so talk to coaches, teachers, clergy, friends parents, anyone you have done casual labor for or places you have volunteered. make sure you ask them if you may use them for a reference and get current contact information for them.

for info about hours you can work, work permit, job suggestions, interview information etcetera go to: http://www.youthrules.dol.gov

there are links for each state with info for employers, educators, parents and TEENS

at 14 or older you can work in an:

    office,

    grocery store,

    retail store,

    restaurant,

    lodging facilities,

    movie theater,

    baseball park,

    municipal parks(city or county),

    amusement park, or

gasoline service station just to name a few……………….

some businesses that do hire 14 and 15 year old employees include:

McDonald's, Burger King, Chic-Fil-A, Sonic, Krogers, Publix, Stop & Shop, Hardee's, Dollar Store, Target

IN MANY STATES AS YOUNG AS 12:

You can deliver, or sell at a street stand, newspapers and periodicals (selling subscriptions is not allowed)

You can work as an actor or performer in motion pictures, television, theater or radio.

You can work in a business solely owned or operated by your parents.

You can work on a farm owned or operated by your parents.

When school is out of session you can work on a private farm picking and selling fruits and vegetables.

(most agriculture employment falls under a different set of laws not part of FLSA and in some states allows agricultural employment as young as 10)

you always have the options of casual labor(working for an individual):

You can mow lawns and other yard work(as casual labor only)

You can clean houses(as casual labor only)

You can wash cars(as casual labor only)

You can Tutor(as casual labor only)

You can work as a pet-sitter/dog-walker(as casual labor only)

You can assist the elderly.(as casual labor only)

You can work as a baby-sitter.(as casual labor only and some states do restrict the age for baby-sitting)

just to name a few ideas............................

  4. 16 is common, but even at 14 you can.

  5. Most businesses want you to be at least 16.

If you are not 16 and are looking for a job,

    Time to be inventive:

    My suggestions to you:

Make up flyers and pass them around in your neighborhood.

Offer to do whatever work it is you want to do, such as :

Computer work, Babysit, Clean Garages, Organize Cupboards, File Papers, Wash Cars, Mow Lawns, Pull Weeds, Tutor the neighbors kids, Walk/wash Dogs, Dog sit, Clean the Pool, Assist the elderly, whatever...

Post first whatever it is you want to do or are good at ...

You should keep your options open and make a decision after the persons call you instead of not giving them many reasons to call.

Say on the flyer you are a student and are available on Saturdays.

  6. 16

  7. Depends on where, and on the job itself.  16 is common.  For some jobs, laws require you to be 18.
