How old do you have to be to get a pilot's license?

I have recently been fascinated by flying when i bought a flight simulator game for my pc and would love to learn to fly my own plane. Im only fourteen and know that i cant get a license now but would like to as soon as i can. Thank you

  1. around 12 but can not fly solo tell your 17

    but commercial license you have to be 18


  2. fighterpilot check the regs, you do not know what you are talking about .along with the other 80% of people that post answers.

    if you dont really know,  at least look it up so you (and others)

    Subpart C--Student Pilots

    Sec. 61.83

    Eligibility requirements for student pilots.

    To be eligible for a student pilot certificate, an applicant must:

    (a) Be at least 16 years of age for other than the operation of a glider or balloon.

    (b) Be at least 14 years of age for the operation of a glider or balloon.

    b) To be eligible for a recreational pilot certificate, a person who applies for that certificate must:

    (1) Be at least 17 years of age;

    To be eligible for a private pilot certificate, a person must:

    (a) Be at least 17 years of age for a rating in other than a glider or balloon.

    (b) Be at least 16 years of age for a rating in a glider or balloon.



    To be eligible for a commercial pilot certificate, a person must:

    (a) Be at least 18 years of age;

    To be eligible for an airline transport pilot certificate, a person must:

    (a) Be at least 23 years of age;

    The regulations are:

    16 - solo flight

    17 - pilots license

    *You can start taking lessons at any age, but you won't be able to solo until you are 16.

  7. Well I started lessons when I was 11. I was told that when I turned 15, the flight lessons would then be switched to the Jeppson curriculum. I was also told that 16 was the soloing age and 17 is license. Because if I remember correctly my requirements for a Private Pilot License was something like 40 hours logged, 10 hours solo, and 20 hours of instructional flight. I think that's what it was.
