How old do you have to be to live on your own?

Living by yourself at 16 can't be legal...

idk where you are but i was emancipated at 15 and my bf and i rented an apartment when i was 16 he was 17. It sucks to be emmancipated bc you are not given the rights as an 18 yr old...its a catch 22!  But it was worth it in my situation

you have to be 18 in be adult to live on your on never ever at 16 it is against the law that means getting your own house are your own apartment it doe's not mean living with your friend are friends at 16 it is not the same thing at all in no living by your self at 16 is illegal your perent's are responsible for you intill you are 18 then you can live on your own intill then no way no how is a 16 are 17 going to live by them self's ever

The legal age of emancipation (when someone receives the right to legally live on their own and make their own decisions) is 18, however a minor can petition the court for emancipation earlier. Basically, they need to prove that they will be better at making decisions for themselves than their legal guardian. So it is very possible for someone to be 16 and legally living on their own.

you can't sign a lease until you're 18 and you would need 3 months rent just to move in, plus deposits for utilities, paying your own car insurance, which would increase a lot for an 18 yr old, and you have to have a good paying full time job
