Most require you are 21 but there are non-gaming hotels that rent to people over 18.  Since you are going to a convention, make reservations thru the same organization and no one will question you.

usually it is 21 but some places will let you at 18, i would just call a couple hotels and ask

Probably 21. There are a few hotels that you can be 18, but most places you must be 21
