  1. The rules depend on whether food is served and who you are with.

If you are not with a parent or planning to buy food there is no reason why a bar would let an underage person take up room and increase the chance of being reported as serving underage people.

Bars are allowed to set any policy they want in addition to the law that helps them control their environment. There is no law the requires a coat and tie and yet a bar may require a coat and tie to enter.

You have no legal right that would require an establishment to allow you to stand at their bar when you are underage just as you could not demand entrance to a bar that requires a coat and tie without one.

  2. It depends on your local laws.  Where I live, a minor can go to a bar, if accompanied by a parent (but cannot drink alcohol, of course).   Otherwise, you have to be 21.

  3. you have to be 18 to be in a bar after 7.30pm. If you live in the states, i don't know, i think 21

  4. It's up to the bar owner. Most won't let you near the bar unless you're 21. A lot don't allow underagers after a certain time. It just makes their lives easier.

  5. as long as it isn't a night club, then you're allowed as long as you want if you have an adult (18+) with you. i've been to the bar wit my dad and gotten coke.

  6. its not law. its up to the owner.

if he wants only people from the ages 60-65 then thats what he will have.

    it aint law, love

  7. Since this Q is on Yahoo UK  I'll answer it on that basis .. it will help if you can add details of your location as the answer will differ in some aspects.

Firstly, and this is pretty universal wherever you are your presence and or ability to purchase things, in any venue, pub, club or shop etc is always at the discretion of the management so whilst the law may allow certain things your presence is not something you can insist upon.

Having established that, in England & Wales the LIcensing Act 2003 governs the various ages of entry and drinking.

The law allows any person over 16yrs of age to be unaccompanied in licensed premises. ( see Section 145 LA 2003 - prohibition on under 16's ) Whilst most people think of a bar as the counter over which drinks are served the definition / concept is actually wider and really applies to the area where predominately alcohol is both served and drunk.

The various references others make about leaving by 9.00 p.m, not being near the 'bar counter' and similar are no longer applicable as far as the law in concerned - people are probably thinking about 'childrens' certificates' which used to be available under the old Licensing Act 1964 which was all repealed in November 2004.

You may not purchase or drink any alcohol, ( see esp. Sections 146, 147, 149 & 150 LA 2003 ) your own potential fine is max £1000 ( yes one thousand pounds ) except you may drink beer, wine or cider with a proper meal, not snack, provided it has been purchased for you by an adult and the adult remains with you to, in effect 'baby' sit / supervise you. You may purchase non alcoholic drinks and refreshments.
