My wife says 10 and I say 6 years old. I want my son to be marksmen by the time he's ten year old. I am shy to go down to the local office and ask though, can you please help me?

  1. In Oregon the child has to be 12 years old to take hunter safety. Oregon does have a mentor program and a child can learn to hunt a 9. Of course there are rules and restrictions so check the regs on this.

  2. In Missouri it is 12

  3. It may depend on the state. In oregon you have to be twelve. But I am sure that there are no laws prohibiting you from teaching him everything that you know.

  4. It depends on the state. For most states (including Michigan, where I am from) you have to be 12 to shoot arrows and 14 to shoot guns for large game.

  5. I took mine in seventh grade at the junior high the reason they do the hunter safety class is so you can get your hunters permit at the age of 15 when you have to have a permit.....check with the local office they may do hunter ed classes just for children but the only reason he needs the safety class is to get his permit.....I learned most of my safety by going hunting with my dad and parents are the BEST teachers after all but I think it's great you want to educate your son and include him in your activity

  6. well up here in new hampshire most kids take it when they are 12-13

i'm not really sure because my dad hasn't really been hunting much lately so i haven't bothered looking into the classes
