I have a friends who's sister is 6 years old. We want to go swimming, but no adults are going to be with us. Will they let the 6 year old swim with us without a parent being around?

  1. Call the pool, or check the web site to find the individual policies.  If you are mature looking and can pass for 18, then yes.  At my club pool you need to be 12 to be at the pool unucompanied by an adult, when I was a kid it was 8 yrs old

  2. if you feel u must,have her wear a floatation device. i don't think that's a good idea,ask aparent to come with u!

  3. I was less than two years old when I started to swim (according to my parents.)  I have video of me when I was 3 swimming, but there were always adults around.  I really don't think 6 is old enough to swim alone.

  4. If she can swim then you might be allowed to go swimming with her. But at reception of the swimming pool, they won't know if she can swim or not, so probably not.

  5. make sure you all wear a life vest, and all should be fine.

  6. If there are no lifeguards, then sure, but watch.

If there are lifeguards, then no.

  7. It depends on their policies.  Where I live, the pool at the fitness center has "open swim" and "family swim"; in open swim, anybody can go in as long as they can swim.  Family swim is for kids with adults.

If there is a lifeguard on duty, and the 6 yr old can swim, it will probably be okay, but what about the parent of this 6 yr old?  Would they want you to take her without any adults?

Check with the parent, and if it's a pool, call ahead and ask the policy.
