  1. I really don't know if your friend is right or not but if your not a specific age in some places you won't be able to book a hotel/motel room, or a beach house depending on where you're going.

There's also the factor of if your parents are comfortable with letting you go on a road trip with your boyfriend at 16. As a new driver, I know my parents would have not let me go on a road trip with just my boyfriend. But I don't know your situation.

I am 18 and 12 of my friends and I just took a senior road trip to Gulf Shores, Al. Because of our age we couldn't even rent our beach house. One of our friends parents rented it for us and we paid for it ourselves. They checked us in and gave us the key on the first day. They stayed far down the beach and we never saw them except for that one day. So, you could also do something along those lines

  2. Unless you have parental consent then yes you have to be 18 to go out of state with anyone other than your parents/legal guardians.  Otherwise those who take you across state border will be in serious trouble for kidnapping.

  3. It could be true, you need to check into it and find out what the laws are in regard to crossing state lines as a minor unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. Also, most places have curfews set to where people under 18 have to be with a parent or guardian in order to be out after a set time, usually 10 pm, so if you do go, you need to be indoors after that time. If you check into it and decide to go, make sure you have some type of written permission from your parents in case you guys get pulled over or something and they think you're running away.

  4. For the driver, you have to be old enough to have a full driver's license, obviously.  Unless you have some place to stay in mind, most legitimate hotels and motels require you are at least 18, sometimes 21, to book a room.  If you are 16 and your boyfriend is 18 or over, it is always possible that your parent could tell the cops that he is kidnapping you, which is clearly not something you want.  If your parent(s) are fine with it, and you have a friend or relative to stay with where you're going, then I'd say it's cool.  By the way, you do have to be at least 18 to cross the border into Canada.
