I'm 15. My moms a single parent and works 2 partime jobs to support me and my little brother. I'm 15 years old and I just got a job at a restaurant serving pizza. Lately my mom has been having trouble getting me to work. And she just told me that her hours were changed and she can no longer take me to work. I have about $1,000.00 saved up and I was wondering if I would be able to take drivers ed. and get a license so I can get me to school and the places I need to be. So can you tell me all you know about getting my license at this age?

  1. 16 and its was like 30 someting bucks last time I checked. If you take drivers ed in school like 180$

  2. Last time I checked, in Texas, you have to be 15 to take drivers ed. It costs a little more to take it in school or through a Driving School. Your other option is to have your Mom teach you. You can request a Driver's Ed course through DPS (TX Dept of Public Safety) and they will send you all the material. From there your Mom can teach you. The information is entered on the computer on line. I am almost positive TX law requires you to have someone in the vehicle at least 21 to drive with you while you have a permit and then after you get your license you must have someone in the vehicle with you at least 18 to drive. Since you need your license a bit sooner you might look into getting your hardship (if you can prove through documentation that there is a "hardship" in regard to your family) you might be able to get a license this way. Try going to the following website and reading the info under the links. Hope this helps!!

  3. ok im 15 and took drivers ed about 1 month ago

    but i live in colorado

so here master drive is $800--way to much

so my mom who is also a single parent signed me up for something called american driving school or something like that for $400

    and it was pretty cool

here you have to be 15 to get your permit and wait 1 year for your license with 50 hours of driving time

but you might want to look in the phonebook and look around cause it might be different in texas
