How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Question

I'm only fourteen years old, but I'd love to volunteer with helping homeless people, and people in need.

I'm from Victoria, Australia.

I've spoken to a few people about it, but I'm fairly sure most organisation only allow 16

I'm wondering if this is a law, or just a regulation the organisation itself has made.

usually you have to be 16 down to volunteer depending on the job.

If you can check on an elderly person near you, it would be wonderful. We paid someone $250 to check on our aunt who was 88 and lived alone.  If you would check once a day on an old person, the family would feel so much better. Ask your neighbors. If you were willing to see if the refrigerator needed food we would have paid more. /
