The minimum age that you can drive a train in the UK is 21. Without being disrespectful, there arn't many 21 year olds who would be suitable for train driving. In the past there were plenty of young drivers, but most them had been second men (drivers assistants) since they left school, and had good railway knowledge. Its' perhaps best to get a job on the railway first and then propgress onto driving through internal promotions etc....
