I have heard anywhere from 15-17. Also, can you be younger to start ground school? If you have websites please list them. Thanks.

  1. The regulations are not set by individual state, but rather by the FAA for all of the US. You can start your training (flight or ground school) at any age. Although you can not solo the aircraft until your are 16 years old and you can not get your private pilot rating until you are 17 years old. You can get a ton of information on how and where to start flying at https://www.beapilot.com/

Hope this helps and good luck!

  2. You must be 17 years old to obtain a Private Pilots License.  You can start ground school at anytime but don't start too early if money is an issue. Anyways, your first solo flight cannot be until you are 16.

  3. And it's Federal, so the state doesn't own the airspace or regulate it.

  4. Pilot Certificates are issued by the federal government, so the rules are the same in all the states.

You have to be 16 to become a Student Pilot (that is, to make your first solo flight).  You must be 17 to apply for the Private Airman Certificate. (That's the official name of what people call the "private pilot's license.")  You're an Airman, even if you're a girl.

But it's really a good idea to finish high school first.  You need algebra and trigonometry to do well on the written test and to understand what is going on well.  Take all the math and science you can, and make excellent grades.  This is all five times more important if you decide you want to make a career of being a pilot.

    Good luck and have fun!
