How old do you need to be to sign up for the police academy in nevada?

  1. You have to be 21 years of age to be a police officer in the state of Nevada.  Although to enter the academy varies....it will depend on which department academy you are trying to enter.  In Nye County years ago they allowed a 20 year old to start the academy.  However it was only because he would be turning 21 prior to the end of the academy.  They did make exceptions in areas of firearms qualifications etc.  He could go to the range to qualify but he was not allowed to keep the firearm he was going to be issued until he turned 21.  There may be other academy's that would allow the same thing but that is going to be up to each individual one.  Most will not allow you to enter until you are 21.

    Also whatever area you live in check the local police department to see if they have a cadet/explorer program.  You could use that to gain some experience and learning about the department, policies, etc until you turn 21 and are able to enter the academy.  


  2. As far as your age, I am unsure, but if you want to get your foot in the door early, go become a Cadet/Explorer.
