get a job at petsmart?

i'm almost 15. i'm not one of those stupid OMG H3 BR0K3 MUii H3@RT </3 types either lol. i teach swimming lessons to an autistic seven year old, so i'm mature for my age. i make all A's.

at school last year, i was the pet manager for my science teacher. i loved working with the class pets [there were alot, too!] and i was just wondering how old you think i need to be to just sorta "work" at a pet store, like petsmart. all i'd do is the easy jobs, like mop or give the cats water or something haha. but i'd totally settle for a low pay. i just want to responsibility of a job.

  1. i tried to get a job at petco recently (i'm 16) and they said you have to be 18 to work there. so i'm assuming it is the same with petsmart.

  2. you could probably check out their website to see how old you have to be, or call em up. the youngest most places hire is fourteen so i think you would be able to, unless different age rules apply when dealing with animals

  3. i tried you have to be 18 for petco or petsmart but you can work at a vets office watching the animals in the back which is a lot better and the same pay maybe more

  4. unless it's a mom and pop pet store, which is rare these days, you need to be atleast 16, and 18 at some places

  5. It's either 16 or 18

    I know my cousin wanted a job there i think it's 18

  6. I'm guessing 16. Maybe if you know someone that works in petsmart they could be your reference. If not try volunteer work until your old enough for a job.

  7. i would say as long as ur over 14. go for it. look mature though, give a nice impression...?

  8. It depends on your state's child labor laws. They are quite specific about when you can begin working for wages. Usually it's sixteen or seventeen.

If you still want to work, how about a pet sitting service for your neighborhood, or something like that? People who would pay you for taking care of their dog/cat/fish/bird/etc. don't have to adhere to the same laws. There are always people going out of town and looking for pet care.

Hope this helps! And thanks for being so responsible :)

  9. Petco and Petsmart require you to be 18 to work in one of their stores. It doesn't matter if you are a mature 15, they want 18 year olds so that they don't have to worry about child labor laws, aka amount of hours worked, chemicals handled, climbing ladders etc.

Edit: If you want to help with the cats for adoption, they are actually through an outside rescue group who would probably be happy to have you as a volunteer.

  10. as long as you are over 14 it should be okay. and it sounds like you would be great at working at a petstore.

  11. Go to petsmart and find out. U can work at fast-foods when under 18, so i dont know why you couldnt at petsmart. Animals are great arent they?

  12. Most likely 16 is the youngest that they will hire and you'll have to get a work permit

  13. no matter what grades u get i school doesnt cut it.its the age that counts u have to be at least 16 or 17 to work in a environment

  14. Most businesses require you to be at least 16 years old, but you'd have to contact Petsmart to find out for sure. Your should either call, or go in person, and talk to the manager, and tell him/her what you're looking for as a job, and you could even offer to do it on a voluntary basis, because they may not be able to pay you since you're underage. Also, let them know tha you were the pet manager for your science teacher, and any other experience you have with animals.

I hope it works out for you.
