  1. well i have a five year old daughter and i know that she wouldn't be able to bath herself the way she needs to be bathed but i think that it is a great time to start teaching her to do it on her own while i monitor it and teach her the correct way of doing it and see how it goes from there.  her hair is past her bottom so i'm sure she'll need help washing her hair for a while.  this is a very question though, i have often wondered the same thing.

  2. 7

  3. My boys were 7&9 when gave them a lesson on how the shower works, they have been taking them ever since. My daughter is 6 and she takes a bath by herself but calls me when she's done, so I can wash her hair and spray her off. She has tried the shower but the water spraying down is still a little ruff on her.

  4. 5

  5. I read somewhere that this should happen around age 8

  6. My kids like taking baths in the winter and showers in the summer.  My children are in elementary school, and I still supervise - not assist w/ their showers.  I have them use the shampoo to wash their bodies and put baby oil in a spray bottle to moisturize their skin.

  7. about 8 !

  8. When the child is doing all the bathing processes themselves.  My daughter is 5, she washes herself completely, but still needs a bit of help with her hair as it is long.  I let her go in and let her know I will be in to check on her.  I check to make sure she has gotten the shampoo all over and then that she rinsed it all out.  Once she can do both on her own, then I will feel comfortable not needing to check.

this also allows her to begin having privacy in the bathroom.

  9. I allow my son to shower with me, he plays while I do my thing.  I also have let him stay in the shower for an short bit while I got ready to get into the shower, staying in the bathroom is the best thing til you know they are ready.  some children are ready sooner than others.  There is not a real standard for much for children.  my son was 2 last sept and he wasnt talking hardly at all I was soo worried, now that he is almost 3 he is talking like crazy.  He took his time with most everything.

  10. 5 or 6 at Least

  11. 7-8 depending on their maturity level and how comfortable they are with water. Always stay in close proximity though!

  12. My daughter started taking showers by herself this year. She is 6. She has been washing herself in the bath since she was 4.

  13. i didn't go straight from baths to showers. i distinctly remember taking baths by myself at 5. i probably didn't start taking showers until i was about 9 because... i still liked playing in the bath tub!

  14. Transition to assisted showers early. I watch my nieces regularly and I do not have a tub - only a shower. She began showering when she was three (of course, they just put their butt in it at the beginning until they get use to the water spraying on them). In the beginning I helped her learn how to scrub her feet without falling down - saftey first (my shower has seats on the side). Make sure the child understands how to tip their head back so the shampoo don't get into their eyes. She is four now and is able to shower and scrub herself quite well. Her sister who is six is able to complete shower herself without a problem.

Three is a good age to start putting them in the shower because they think it is fun and is like playing in the rain. After they show that they are responsible - ex. don't play with the shower door/cutrain or anything that fall/break - let them shower by themselves with you in the next room.

The girls both love showers and actually prefer them over baths.

  15. My son, who's 5, has just started taking baths independently.  My other son, who's 3, can bathe himself, but I need to be in there to tell him what to do (wash your hair, now rinse it out, wash your body, now rinse off).  My 5-year-old doesn't like showers at all and won't take them, so I'll wait until he will.  I'm sure that by the time he's in junior high, taking baths will be uncool and he'll want to take showers.  I didn't start taking showers until I was 12.  I took baths on my own from about age 5 or 6 on.

  16. I help the kids with bathing (sitting there always) until they were 4. Then I started to run in and out to check on dinner, bring laundry in and fold it while they are bathing, read a magazine, or even pull the curtain over to give them privacy.

I'm going to do this until they are around 6. Then after that, they will be taking showers by themselves! That a relief to me! Less baths
