To me she looks 15 or 16 she does not look 9 or 11 years old. I know where you're going but our birth certificates are public record here in the US.

She looks 16, and furthermore, there is no doubt a stack of records going back 17 years (to her mother's pregnancy) to prove it -- birth record, social security record, dental records, medical records, church records, school records, and competition records.

I was thinking she was 17 or 18, although I gather she must be 16 by everyone else's responses.  I'm awful at guessing ages, though.

The only female Chinese gymnast I'm sure is over 16 is the oldest one that they say is 20.  She looks a fair amount like several of the graduate students from China I work with, but the rest definitely seem younger.  Are they all 16?  I'm not totally convinced, but I'm also a bad person to judge in the first place.  I'll give it a few months and see what does or doesn't come out of all the journalistic interest.

She looks over 18 to me. Depending on the photo, or what she's wearing, or if I hear her talking, I may at other times say she looks 15 or 21. I am not good at telling people's age anyway. I think people here are saying she is exactly 16, not 17, because they already know her age. Otherwise how did everyone guess the age exactly correct? That's not easy to do!  I had no idea Sacramone is as old as 20 until I looked it up.

No, I don't see your point. Shawn looks at least sixteen - maybe even a year or two older. The Chinese girls? Well, that's a different story.

It seems that some Americans try to insult those Chinese girls by saying that they are underage. I guess they had a hard time understanding the fact that Chinese girls grabbed the gold with their stunning performance.



Shawn Johnson looks younger than 16, but she is 16, according to the US public records. More importantly, I believe that. I trust American people.
