How old does a Bichon Frise have to be before they can eat adult food?

I feed my Bichon Cesar puppy formula... but am interested in seeing how soon I can give her the other flavors that they offer, which are only in adult formulas. She is approximately 19 weeks old.

  1. That is not a great food for your puppy. There are many better foods you can buy. You should be feeding a good kibble with no by products, sugars or artificial colorings.  They do not need canned food. Bichons generally should stay on puppy kibble until they are about 10 months to a year. Then switch to adult dog food. You can add a little egg, yogurt, cooked veggies, chicken, fish to the kibble from time to time.

    Some quality dog foods for your puppy would be:

    Merrick

    Wellness

    Canidae

    Innova

    California Natural

    Solid Gold

    Wysong

    Avoderm

    Flint River

    Orijen

    There are many others as well. Do some research and find a healthy, safe puppy food for your Bichon.


  2. Small-breed dogs can switch to adult food around 8-9 months of age.

    I don't recommend giving her ANY Cesar food, it's very low quality. It's full of byproducts (the 'leftovers' after the remove meat for humans to eat), mystery meats, artificial dyes, and overall, just low-quality ingredients.

  3. you have a ways to go.  i didn't start feeding my pap until she was about eleve months.  then i bought a bag of adult and would feed one part adult to three parts puppy.  after a week and a half, i would feed half and half.  another week and a half, i would have switched.  always change food gradually.

    only time she gets canned food is as a treat and then only a spoonful mixed with dry.
